Procedures:

1.Dividestudentsintogroupsoffourandaskthemtoguesswhatthefestivalsareaccording

tothedescriptionsandthendiscussthequestionsinthetextbook.Theholidaysandfestivals

describedinpartonearetheMid-AutumnFestival,Tomb-SweepingFestival/QingMing

Festival,Thanksiving,andHalloween.

Thistextisadialoguebetweentwofriends,ZhangJuanandPeter,discussingholidaysand

festivalsintheirrespectivecultures,ChinaandtheUnitedStates.Thetextprovidesan

introductoryculturalexchangeandcomparisonoftraditionalholidaycelebrationsinChina

andtheUnitedStates.Ithighlightssomeofthemajornationalholidaysineachcountryand

someuniquecustoms.

Gothroughtheconversationanddrawstudents’attentiontoexpressionsofaskingaboutand

describingtheholidaysandfestivals.Thenleadstudentstohavealookattheusefulwords

andfunctionalexpressionsintheLanguageBank.Inaddition,theteachermayaskstudentsto

addotherimportantholidaysandfestivalsinChinaorothercountries.

Focus:Thistaskaimstoengagestudentsinconversationalexchangesaboutcultural
